Rascal - The Endurance Dinghy

Rascal - the Endurance Dinghy

Built to Order, contact us for more details.

Endurance racing is at the heart of The Performance Marine Group, owners of Olympic
Class Dinghy builder PSA and the 54Knots.com UIM racing team. As holders of six world
records, our team has hands-on experience of all the conditions the sea and the weather
can deliver.

Endurance is the ability or strength to continue or last, especially despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions, such as weather and water, be that a large lake or the sea.

As endurance events and extreme sports grow in popularity and athletes seek to challenge themselves and the elements, the Rascal delivers a unique platform and experience, with safety as the #1 consideration.

A rascal is identical to a Laser and uses either the 4, 6 or 7 rigs. Each rascal is equipped
with extensive safety equipment comprising :

  • Solar-powered satellite tracking from Iridium – this transmits your location every 10 minutes, from anywhere in the world
  • Storage for flares
  • VHF radio
  • Water and nutrition storage
  • Mast lighting
  • Mast head radar deflector

In September 2024, Dan Lenard, a member of the 54Knots team, sailed single-handed and non-stop for five days in the Adriatic Sea using the prototype Rascal, travelling 220 Nautical miles. This gave us real experience, including capsizes, to finalise the safety systems and operating locations within the rascal.

Forthcoming Events

In 2025, the Rascal fleet endurance event, comprising up to ten Rascals, will take place in
the Adriatic, followed by a second event from Monaco. Both events will be fully supported by safety boats and have a target distance of 500 nautical miles. Dan Lenard has already signed up for these events. While endurance racing is about achievement, competition to reach the target first will no doubt happen. The first boat over the line will set the course record, and completion of the course earns an endurance certificate. To apply to compete apply here.

Individual Rascal boats are handmade to order and available for purchase to experienced
sailors. For more information, click here .

Rascal Fleet event boats are also available to clubs and associations on a charter basis.
